Who doesn't admire the women of Paris as they make even the most mundane tasks seem chic? Even rushing home in the evenings, with baskets filled to the brim with fresh produce, suddenly seems glamorous. It was this image of the simple and chic French market basket lead Lindy McLeod to start her business and bring a bit of Paris back to Sydney. We'll be first in line to visit Lindy at the upcoming Paddington Magnolia Square!
How would you best describe your business?
I import genuine French market baskets from a lovely family supplier in Casablanca, Morocco. My ethos is to provide an ecologically friendly, beautiful and hardworking alternative to using plastic bags and green bags.I first used them when I lived in London and had no car and they became indispensable to me and I have about six on the go at all times and believe that everyone needs at least one!
What has been your greatest success to date?
Selling 9 containers of baskets (about 70,000) and having my kids come back from Perth and tell me they saw them all over the place there! Also I have gained some rather large wholesale customers.
What is the best business advice you've been given?
I really have just had to work things out on my own but I want to build the retail part of my business. My daughter works in online marketing and has encouraged me to build that part of the business.
Dream holiday location?
Morocco is a magical place!
Three words that best describe you?
Hardworking, persevering, positive.
What are you looking forward to in 2011?
Building my retail and online business via my new shopping cart website which is launching in the next couple of weeks and via taking part in Magnolia Square.
